Dos and Don’ts of Client Gifting

Gifting is a powerful way to let someone know how much you appreciate them. Client gifting is no different. In fact, sharing a gift is a simple but impactful way to solidify new relationships and maintain existing ones with the people that matter most to you and your business.

Here are some easy Do's and Don’ts to get you started…

Do: Gift creatively

When you give a gift, you want your recipient to feel special. You don’t want to give them something they don’t want, or that they already have. Offer them a gift that brings them joy. Snappy helps connect people in meaningful ways by delivering a joyful gifting experience that empowers your client to receive the perfect gift every time – because they get to choose it themselves!

Do: Make it personal

Yes, you always want to make sure you do the “gifting” part of “client gifting” right, but the note that goes along with it is just as important as the gift itself. Not only is a personal note a great way to emphasize the importance of your relationship, but it can also act as a gentle reminder, or even provide an entry point for starting a new conversation or new business opportunity.

Don’t: Wait until the holidays

While many people plan client gifting to coincide with the December holidays, many opportunities exist to show gratitude and appreciation throughout the year. Sending a gift to celebrate a milestone, like the close of a big deal, a wedding, or a new baby, emphasizes the importance and authenticity of the relationship. A surprise treat to simply say “Thank You” can help deepen the relationship. You could also send a gift immediately after pitching a potential partner to ensure that you stay top of mind. Have you worked with someone for a long and fruitful amount of time, consider sending an anniversary gift. When you gift at unexpected times, it’s also more memorable for the recipient.

Don’t: Send a gift without checking corporate gifting policies

You want to make sure your recipient can accept your gift. Do some quick research to make sure that their company doesn’t have any policies restricting gifts that can be accepted from clients or customers. You might also find that their company has a maximum monetary value for gifts received by their employees. Snappy allows for a wide range of gifting budgets, starting at $25, which makes it easy to make sure your gifting complies with your client's corporate policies (and your expense reports).

Don’t: Give everyone the same gift

It’s a small world and you don’t want everyone to discover that you sent them all the same gift.  Snappy easily solves this problem! You choose a gift collection and your recipients get to choose the gift they want.

Do: Pay attention to details

Make sure you double-check the spelling of everyone’s name and company. You don’t want someone to forget all about the gift but remember how you mistakenly misspelled their name!

Don’t: Forget the team

If you deal with more than one member of a client’s team, make sure you send something to everyone who has helped you along the way. Is there someone who has gone out of their way to help with scheduling important meetings? Someone who worked behind the scenes to get you a deadline extension? Don’t leave them out!
