We’ve all received them – the standard corporate holiday cards wishing us “Season’s Greetings” or “Happy Holidays.” While appreciated, these messages often feel impersonal. They are a missed opportunity to truly connect.

This holiday season, make your message stand out. A few thoughtful touches can make a big difference, letting each team member feel the impact of your appreciation.

Why Do Personalized Holiday Notes Matter?

Writing holiday cards might not seem like a high priority during this busy time of year, but it should be!

A sincere, personalized message shows your team they’re valued and recognized for their contributions.

The end of the year is the perfect time to acknowledge achievements, accomplishments, and the time you’ve spent together. A holiday note celebrating these achievements can make everyone feel part of something meaningful.

Personalizing Your Holiday Notes

When it comes to holiday notes, you could rely on a generic card with a standard “Season’s Greetings” message – or you can send a more heartfelt message that captures exactly how you feel about your team’s contributions.

Try this:

What a year! Together, this team has accomplished so much and created so many memorable moments. Each one of you has contributed to making this year remarkable. Wishing you and yours a joyful holiday season filled with cherished traditions and new memories.

Or this:

As we wrap up another year, I want to take this moment to thank each of you for your dedication. This team has overcome challenges, celebrated wins, and built something truly special together. I am grateful to have such a talented group by my side. Wishing you all a season of warmth and joy with your loved ones. Here’s to an even brighter year ahead!

Five Tips for Writing the Perfect Holiday Note

  • Acknowledge Contributions: Even in a team-wide message, you can reference specific group achievements. This adds a layer of recognition and lets your employees feel seen for their efforts. Possibilities to consider: Did you break a sales record? Were new products launched? Did you expand your customer base?
  • Use a Warm, Personal Tone: Avoid corporate jargon and write as if you’re speaking to the team. A conversational tone helps the message feel authentic and personal. This is not the time to “circle back” or “uplevel” or reference “low-hanging fruit.”
  • Share a Memorable Moment: Reflecting on a collective achievement or a highlight from the year helps to create a sense of connection and pride. It also shows that you value these moments as part of your team’s growth. Think about it. Was there an inside joke from an offsite? Is there team swag that everyone wears regularly? Did you have a meal together that everyone still talks about?
  • Encourage Balance and Enjoyment Outside of Work: Let your team know you value their well-being beyond their contributions at work. Express your hope that they take this time of year to relax, recharge, and enjoy moments with friends and family. Honoring this balance shows respect for their personal lives and demonstrates that you care about them as individuals, not just employees.
  • Include a Thoughtful Wish for the New Year: Holidays are a time to celebrate the past and look forward to the future. Express your excitement for the year ahead, reinforcing a positive outlook and building enthusiasm for future goals.
